(Photo by Christian Petersen/Getty Images)Former ESPN college football writer Brett McMurphy released a bombshell report on Urban Meyer on Wednesday morning, and in response, many are wondering whether the Ohio State head coach will survive its aftermath.McMurphy reports that Meyer lied last week when he said he wasn’t aware of the 2015 allegations of domestic violence against former wide receivers coach Zach Smith. McMurphy, in his report, which is posted on Facebook, provides text messages from Meyer’s wife Shelley that he say proves he knew. The report also alleges that numerous assistants on Meyer’s staff knew of the situation. McMurphy provides text messages between the wives of Ohio State’s assistants regarding the allegations. The report also includes photos of the injuries Courtney Smith sustained from the alleged abuse. In response, many are wondering whether Meyer will keep his job as Ohio State’s head coach. If Meyer lied and helped cover up Smith’s alleged abuse, he could be on the unemployment line pretty soon.Ohio State HAS to do SOMETHING with Urban Meyer if that McMurphy report is accurate. You can’t mess around with this stuff and not doing anything will be a bad look for Ohio State.— Kevin McGuire (@KevinOnCFB) August 1, 2018I could see Urban Meyer getting fired or suspended over this. Nobody’s playing with being Title IX negligent anymore.— Mark Ennis (@MarkEnnis) August 1, 2018This Urban Meyer stuff is bad. If the Ohio State brass has any fortitude, they’ll fire him. I hope they do the right thing.— Paul Tucker (@PaulAndTucker) August 1, 2018Urban has a lot of explaining to do. And instead of playing the indignant moralist like he usually does, he should try the truth https://t.co/1B0JUATWDf— Dan Wolken (@DanWolken) August 1, 2018Neither Urban nor Shelley Meyer has released a statement on the matter. Ohio State also has yet to comment. If you’re interested in reading the entire report, it’s embedded below via Facebook. It’s very long and detailed. It’s unclear how this is going to play out, but if it’s true, Meyer could be in some trouble here. We’ll keep you updated.
