first_img Watch Live UNI 9/21/2018 – 7 p.m. Story Links Full Schedule Roster LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Drake University volleyball team rallied to win a set before ultimately falling at Kansas, 3-1, Tuesday, Sept. 18, evening.The Bulldogs dropped the non-conference match by set scores of 25-15, 25-22, 22-25, 25-20 against the Jayhawks, a team that has appeared in seven-straight NCAA Tournaments.Grace Schofield (Mundelein, Ill.) led Drake (11-3) by matching a career-high with 18 kills on 45 attempts to hit .250. Gillian Gergen (Janesville, Iowa) and Emily Plock (Altoona, Iowa) continued their strong play with 12 and 11 kills, respectively.However, Drake’s attack struggled against Kansas’ frontline as the Jayhawks registered 16 blocks and outblocked the Bulldogs, 16-5. Jada Burse had 18 kills for the victorious Jayhawks and helped the team hit .315 in the win. Drake forced a fourth set by rallying to win the third set, 25-22, and hitting .255 in the set win. Drake faced a 20-18 deficit before Schofield and Callan Holmes (Lorena, Texas) hit back-to-back kills off Paige Aspinwall (Dayton, Minn.) sets to tie the match. Aspinwall had 28 assists on the night.Schofield added another kill and a block to help the Bulldogs take the set and extend the match.Kansas rolled out to a 15-7 lead in the fourth set before the Bulldogs started clawing back and pulling within four points multiple times, including at 24-20, before the Jayhawks put away the set and match.
