IPL 2016: Virat Kohli says boring and traditional routine paying off

first_imgVirat Kohli slammed an unbeaten 54 off 45 balls to anchor Royal Challengers Bangalore to a six-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils in winner-takes-all contest in Raipur on Sunday. Chasing a modest 139 for a win for a place in the Indian Premier League play-offs, Kohli led from the front once again, notching up his sixth fifty of the season, 25th overall, to take RCB home after they were reduced to 17 for two in the third over. Kohli also became the first player to breach 900-run landmark during his risk-free innings that was studded with six fours. “Honestly, those stats have mostly reached me through images but I choose not to look at it. Every game is an opportunity. We were at No. 7 position in the table and now we have two chances at the final. Our focus has paid off. “It’s not easy but you have to start afresh every day. I know it sounds boring and traditional but it has to be boring. Every day has to be made use of,” he said during the presentation ceremony. ‘EXTREMELY MOTIVATED’ “I am extra motivated when I come on to the field and make sure I work hard. It’s very important to not get rude or arrogant about how you strike the ball. People will have a go at you on the field, but after the chat is done, you have to get back to being confident and calm about your skill.” ‘PLAY MY HEART OUT FOR INDIA’ “The Australia series this year, I felt that people genuinely want me to do well. I play my heart out for the country and for the team I am playing for them right now.” INDIAN CITIZENSHIP for AB, GAYLE “The support has been well and we heard RCB’s chants here too. Will happen when you have two of the most loved cricketers in de Villiers and Gayle in the team. Bangalore is their second home. They should get the Indian citizenship.”advertisementlast_img read more
